Prerequisite Coursework Requirements

Applicants must have all prerequisite courses completed by the end of the academic winter session prior to the requested program entry date. For example, an applicant who is applying for entrance to the 2026 Winter session (i.e., beginning September 2026) must have all prerequisite coursework successfully completed by the end of 2025 Winter Term 2 (i.e., April 30th, 2026). 

Audiology

MSc Audiology minimum prerequisites (all 6 required*):

  1. Introduction to Physics (energy and waves)
  2. Developmental Psychology
  3. Sensation/Perception
  4. Research Methods
  5. Introduction to Linguistics
  6. Neuroanatomy for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology

Speech-Language Pathology

As part of our Speech-Language Pathology curriculum renewal, the prerequisites for admission to the MSc Speech-Language Pathology program have been updated. New minimum prerequisites (all 6 required*):

  1. Phonology, Morphology, Syntax or Semantics
  2. Language Acquisition
  3. Phonetics – must include phonetic transcription
  4. Developmental Psychology
  5. Neuroanatomy, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, or Human Anatomy and Physiology
  6. Statistics

*Note: the completion of one 3-credit course (or equivalent) is sufficient for meeting each prerequisite requirement, unless otherwise noted.

For courses not listed in the Course Prerequisite Guide, applicants are required to submit a full syllabus for evaluation by the Admissions Committee. Please provide details of the specific prerequisite that you would like the syllabus evaluated for: e.g., Prerequisite: Sensation/Perception, Course: PSYC367, Institution: UBC.
