SASS SLP Clinic

The School of Audiology and Speech Sciences is excited to announce a student-led SASS Clinic!

Note: Due to the positive support we have received, the SASS Speech & Language Clinic is now running at full capacity for the Fall 2021 pilot project.

Designed as a pilot project, the SASS Clinic is partnering with the current student-led Physical Therapy & Research Clinic (PTRC) in the Friedman building (https://physioclinic.med.ubc.ca/).

With support from the Faculty of Medicine for its development, the SASS Clinic’s purpose is to increase internal clinical learning and placement opportunities within our School.

The project will focus on providing assessment and intervention to adult clients with neurogenic communication disorders (e.g., Aphasia, Apraxia of Speech, Dysarthria and Cognitive-Communication needs), as a result of a stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, Parkinson’s disease, or dementia; using principles of the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning (ICF) and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP).

The clinic will be open two days a week, Mondays and Thursdays, starting September 27 to December 9, 2021.

All appointments will include or be run by one of two SLP graduate students during their 3rd clinical externship, under the supervision of two licensed Speech-Language Pathologists.

There will be opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, joint sessions, and possible group sessions with the SLP students at the SASS Clinic and the Physical Therapy students at the PTRC.

The SASS Clinic rates will be:

  • Initial appointment – free
  • Subsequent appointments – $65
  • Affordability model* – $45
  • UBC AMS/GSS Student Rate: Initial appointment and subsequent appointments – $35

*Based on income and determined on a case-by-case basis

**Note, we will not be able to accept clients with Third-Party payment (e.g., ICBC, WorkSafeBC, RASP, etc.)

All sessions will be 45 minutes in length.

If there are any questions about the SASS Clinic, please email Cheryl McGee at cheryl.mcgee@audiospeech.ubc.ca or call at (604) 822-3318.
