Announcement from the Director:

I am delighted to announce that Dr. Doug Sladen will be joining our School as an Associate Professor in Audiology, starting January 2024.
Dr. Doug Sladen earned his bachelor’s (’92) and master’s (’94) degrees from Western Washington University. He then worked as a clinical audiologist for several years before returning to complete doctoral studies. He completed his Ph.D. in Hearing and Speech Sciences at Vanderbilt University in 2006. Dr. Sladen was on faculty at the University of Texas at Austin until 2011, and then joined the Mayo Clinic as Director of the Cochlear Implant Program. Dr. Sladen came back to the west coast where he has been on faculty at Western Washington University since 2017, and Department Chair since 2022. Dr. Sladen’s research is focused on cochlear implantation among children and adults. Specifically, his work examines outcomes in speech perception, localization, and overall quality of life. Most recently he has been examining outcomes among children and adults with single-sided deafness who have cochlear implants within a virtual reality test environment. Outside of work, Dr. Sladen and his husband, Dr. Steve Bennett, have seven-year-old boy/girl twins and spend their time hiking and biking.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Sladen to our School!
