Counselling During Real-Ear Measurements: From research idea to knowledge uptake.

Lorienne M. Jenstad, PhD, Associate Professor
with collaborators Angela Ryall, John Pumford, Tami Howe, Garnet Grosjean

We conducted focus groups with first-time hearing aid users to gather their perspective regarding the content and format of informational counseling during hearing aid verification with real-ear measurements (REM). Qualitative analysis of their feedback revealed specific suggestions for ways to make the content more accessible. Their comments and suggestions have implications for audiologists counseling their clients, for manufacturers of REM systems, and for our understanding of ways to improve client-centered care in audiology.

I will describe the process of conducting research with an industrial partner, from idea generation, to funding, to knowledge uptake, including the immediate implementation of research findings into products.

Research funded by Mitacs, with Audioscan as the industrial partner. This presentation will mention a specific product for hearing aid verification. The presenter has no financial conflict of interest with this product or industrial partner.
