MSc Admission Requirements

We accept applications for our MSc program only from individuals who have Canadian citizenship or permanent residency status. We are unable to accept applications from individuals who require a student visa to study in Canada.

The minimum criteria for the MSc Program are as follows:

  • A four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited university
  • A minimum overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC) in third- and fourth-year courses OR academic standing with at least 12 credits of third- or fourth-year courses in the A grade range (80% or higher at UBC) in the field of study.
  • Prerequisite coursework in specific content areas (see Undergraduate Preparation for MSc Speech-Language Pathology or MSc Audiology)
  • Online prerequisite course(s):
    • Audiology stream: AUDI 402 or equivalent (offered in January and May)
    • Speech Language Pathology stream: AUDI 402 and 403 or equivalent (402 is offered in January and May; 403 is offered in March)
  • Observations of and/or meetings with Speech-Language Pathologists AND Audiologists
  • Demonstrated English language proficiency (for non-native English speakers only), see Application Checklist, Step 6

Applicants must have all prerequisite courses completed by the end of the regular academic session prior to the desired program entry date. For example, to apply for the 2025-2026 Winter Session intake (i.e. September 2025), your prerequisite coursework must be successfully completed by the end of Term 2 of the 2024-2025 Winter Session (i.e. April 2025).
